UK's $4.1 billion iCloud suit won't be heard until late 2028
It's not new news that the long-running UK class action suit against Apple's iCloud pricing could see users paid $95, but what is, is that it will be October 2028 before the case begins.All UK iCloud users could get a payout of around $95 after October 2028, if Apple is proved to have overcharged for the service.The UK's Which? consumer group first filed its complaint over iCloud charges back in November 2024. According to the group, Apple locked "millions of consumers into its iCloud service at rip-off prices."It's not clear why other media outlets including the BBC are now reporting that the group has now won a ruling from the UK's Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT). Unlike previous models, this one gets 24 hours of normal use instead of 18 hours, which makes a huge difference. That should be enough to get you through a full day of use, including sleep tracking, while a quick 15-minute charge gets you another 8 hours of use. The only real downside of getting the Apple Watch 11 is that it’s not that big of an upgrade over the Series 10. If you already have the previous model, the upgrade may feel minor. But at this price, maybe you’ll want to upgrade anyway.

Hackers steal Apple and Tesla data from Tata's iPhone factory

tvOS 27 beta leaks clues that Siri AI is coming to future Apple TVs and HomePods
Macworld As many who watched the WWDC keynote earlier this month noted, Apple didn’t say a single word about Apple TV or HomePod. Not surprisingly, neither device will benefit from any of the new Apple Intelligence features announced with iOS 27, including Siri AI. However, the latest tvOS 27 beta suggests the company is already laying the groundwork for future hardware, which lines up with rumors of new HomePod and Apple TV models powered by more powerful chips. Apple Intelligence code keeps showing up in tvOS 27 Since the first developer beta of tvOS 27, Macworld has been digging through the operating system’s code and has discovered signs that Apple is preparing its home devices for a major transition. One of the biggest clues has been the addition of multiple Apple Intelligence-related frameworks and code. While Apple Intelligence is currently limited to iPhones, iPads, and Macs with compatible hardware, code in tvOS 27 suggests Apple is bringing support for those technologies to its smart home platform as well. These additions are noteworthy because none of the current Apple TV or HomePod models support these features. Yes, tvOS shares a lot of code with iOS, but we also looked at tvOS 26, and most of the code related to Apple Intelligence wasn’t present in the previous version. Macworld also found references to N1, Apple’s custom wireless chip for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, in the tvOS 27 betas. Previously, only iOS referenced this chip, as it is only found in the latest iPhone and iPad models. None of the current Apple TV or HomePod models feature the N1 chip, which suggests that the code is related to new hardware. The new Siri AI could be coming to HomePod and Apple TV.Foundry Beta 2 references HomePod with Siri AI Now, the second developer beta of tvOS 27 adds another intriguing piece to the puzzle. New code associated with the HomePod setup process includes references to Apple’s next-generation Siri experience powered by Apple Intelligence. While the code does not reveal exactly how these features will work, it suggests that Apple is actively preparing tvOS and HomePod software for Siri AI integration. That’s significant because, once again, Siri AI isn’t currently available on any HomePod or Apple TV model. Siri on Apple TV could be getting a massive upgrade with the next generation of devices.Foundry Siri AI relies heavily on on-device processing and significantly more memory than older Apple hardware provides. Current HomePods are powered by Apple Watch chips that were designed years before Apple Intelligence became a priority, while the latest Apple TV is powered by the A15 Bionic chip with just 4GB of RAM. For months, rumors have suggested that Apple is working on a new generation of home-focused products designed around AI. The most notable is the so-called “HomePad,” a device expected to combine elements of an iPad, HomePod, and smart home hub. At the same time, Apple is also rumored to be developing updated HomePod models and a new Apple TV. An internal build of iOS 26 that was leaked last year includes references to all of these products. Details of the tech specs for these devices are still unclear, but one thing is certain: tvOS 27 is clearly paving the way for new versions of Apple TV and HomePod that will finally be compatible with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. The new M5 models mostly represent a chip refresh, but it includes an impressive graphics boost and a great SSD upgrade, as we said in our 4.5-star review. We expect to see $200-$300 off on most models. At the same time, Apple upgraded the MacBook Air with an M5 chip as well. Like the Pro models, the starting storage is double what it was on the M4 models, so they now start at $1,099 for 512GB of storage instead of $999 for 256GB of storage. However, it’s still a fantastic laptop for its price, even if we won’t see discounts in the same $749 range as we did last year. The extra storage is well worth the price increase. We saw prices on entry-level M4 MacBook Airs as low as $749 during last year’s Prime Day sales, but we expect prices to be about $100 higher this year. This year, there’s a new MacBook in town, the Neo, which is Apple’s cheapest laptop to date, starting at just $599. It has yet to see more than a $5 or $10 discount, so we’ll be looking out for any price cut on these models, especially a price cut of $25 or more. We’ve recently seen AirPods Pro 3 as low as $179 ($70 off), so we expect Amazon to beat that price during Prime Day. AirPods 4 have been on shelves for a while, but they’re still a fantastic pair of earbuds. Amazon regularly discounts the standard version to $99 and the ANC model to $149, both representing $30 savings. However, we’ve seen prices drop far lower during major sales, with up to $80 off, so be on the lookout for big savings. And since we haven’t heard anything about a new model arriving, you’re in the clear. Earlier this year, Apple updated its AirPods Max with an H2 chip, bringing better noise cancellation and missing features such as Live Translation and Adaptive Audio for the same $549 price. We’ve already seen them dip down to $499, and we’re hoping they get $100 price cut over Prime Day. Apple is doomed because everyone loves iOS 27

Anyway, despite the smart money wanting the bad news first, here’s the good news: people largely seem to like this year’s crop of Apple betas. Now, the Macalope assumes you, the average reader of this column, are not a Liquid Glass super fan. For whatever reason the horny one imagines that the Venn diagram of Liquid Glass super fans and Macalope readers is not very concentric. Prime Day Mac & MacBook deals to avoid The cheapest Mac isn’t always the best value. Rather than using Prime Day to spend less, use it as an opportunity to get better specifications for the same budget. When buying a Mac in 2026, try to get as much RAM and storage as you can afford. Most current Macs now start with 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD, which is a much better baseline for modern workloads. The main exception is the entry-level MacBook Neo, which still ships with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Because Apple Silicon uses unified memory and storage that can’t be upgraded later, it’s worth buying as much RAM and SSD capacity as you can comfortably afford. Memory is especially important for Apple Intelligence features and other AI workloads. While the MacBook Neo supports Apple Intelligence, some advanced features require an M3 chip or later. For most buyers, prioritizing memory upgrades will deliver greater long-term benefits than paying extra for a faster processor. Faster chip, longer battery, better display, satellite connectivity, and improved durability. You can’t really find the Ultra 2 new any more, but the Ultra 3 is probably worth the price anyway. U.S. Prime Day price: You can save $150 on the Apple Watch Ultra 3, which is one of the all-time discounts we’ve ever seen on this line since its 2022 arrival. Best Amazon Prime AirPods deals AirPods Pro 3 Apple Apple released AirPods Pro 3 in September 2025. They brought a slightly new design with foam-infused tips for a better fit. They also brought several new features, including an in-ear heart rate sensor, better battery life, enhanced noise cancellation, and improved sound. U.S. Prime Day price: Last week, Amazon was selling AirPods Pro 3 for $169, a savings of $80 and the same as their all-time low from Black Friday 2025. They have gone up to $179, but we expect that price to fall again. AirPods Pro 3: $179.99 U.K. Prime Day price: Amazon has already discounted the AirPods Pro 3 to the best price we’ve seen so far. Get them for £175, a savings of £44. AirPods Pro 3: £175 AirPods 4 Apple/Amazon Apple’s fourth-generation AirPods have been on shelves since September 2024. They were a dramatic upgrade over the previous model, bringing a new design, H2 chip, and a USB-C charging case. Additionally, Apple cut the price from $169 to $129 for the standard model and introduced a higher-end version with noise cancellation. U.S. Prime Day price: Amazon is offering the AirPods 4 (without ANC) for $99, a savings of $30. While this is a good price, it’s not any better than Amazon’s normal sale price, so we don’t recommend rushing to buy a pair until they drop below $90 or nearer their Black Friday price of $69. AirPods 4: $99 U.K. Prime Day price: Amazon has an “Early Prime Day Deal” and are selling AirPods 4 for £79.80, a savings of £39.20 and their lowest price ever. AirPods 4: £79.80 AirPods 4 with ANC Apple / Jan Gruber Sitting between the low-end AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3 are the AirPods 4 with ANC for $179. As the name suggests, the only difference between these earbuds and the standard AirPods 4 is the addition of noise cancellation. They also miss out on some features enabled by noise cancellation, including Adaptive Audio, Transparency Mode, and Conversation Awareness, as well as Live Translation. U.S. Prime Day price: AirPods 4 with ANC are currently reduced to $149, a savings of $30 off their $179 MSRP. That’s not much different than Amazon’s regular sale price, so there’s no reason to rush to buy a pair unless they drop down to $125 or, even better, if they drop to $99 as they did for Black Friday. AirPods 4 with ANC: $149 U.K. Prime Day price: Amazon is currently selling AirPods 4 with ANC for £125.40, a saving of £43.60 in an “Early Prime Day Deal” and the lowest ever price. AirPods 4 with ANC: £125.40 AirPods Max 2 Apple Apple finally updated its AirPods Max headphones in April with a new H2 chip and better noise cancellation. Unlike Apple’s earbuds, they come in a variety of colors, including blue, orange and purple. U.S. Prime Day price: Last week, Amazon cut the price of AirPods Max 2 to $499, a savings of $50 and the lowest price they’ve reached since their April debut. But just in time for Prime Day, Amazon has already cut the price further to just $399. It’s the best price we’ve ever seen on AirPods Max, so if you want a pair, don’t hesitate. We expect a steady stream of excellent Apple deals across the four days, and if you’re looking for a new iPad, this is a great opportunity to bag one at a low price. While Amazon always offers some kind of savings on Apple’s line of tablets, it’s been a while since we’ve seen any spectacular discounts on its latest lineup. For example, the $499 iPad mini, which regularly saw $100 savings across the board, hasn’t dipped below $400 in months. The same goes for the iPad Air, which we’re used to seeing for $100-$150 off, but with the iPad Air being only a few months old, the deals aren’t so good this time. So we’ll be on the lookout for any major discounts on those models. The one model you might spot at an attractive price is the A16 iPad, which is already Apple’s cheapest tablet. Just note, this model doesn’t support Apple Intelligence or any of the new Siri AI features coming in iPadOS 27 this fall. That doesn’t mean it’s not a great tablet for under $300, and if you’re buying one for a child, you’re probably better off without those features anyway. Of course, Prime Day isn’t just for iPads. We expect to see even better deals once the sale begins – but beware that Apple is expected to increase prices soon so these prices may be the lowest we see for a long time. iPad (A16) Apple Apple’s A16-based iPad is already a bargain at its usual $349 price. Amazon regularly discounts it to $299, and we’ve seen it drop as low as $274 during previous Prime Day and Black Friday sales. Just remember, this is Apple’s only tablet that doesn’t support Apple Intelligence, so if you want the new Siri AI, you’ll have to buy a mini or an Air or wait for the next-gen model rumored to arrive this fall. U.S. Prime Day price: The A16 iPad was $299 at Amazon at the beginning of last week, the entire line was then listed as out of stock, but it’s back on sale again now with $100 off. A16 iPad (128GB): $299 U.K. Prime Day price: Amazon U.K. is selling the A16 iPad for £310, a savings of £19 on its £329 RRP. A16 iPad (128GB): £310 iPad mini Apple Apple hasn’t updated the iPad mini since 2024, but it’s still a fantastic tablet and the best of its class. It’s more portable than either the A16 iPad or 11-inch iPad Air, and fully capable of running Apple Intelligence and iOS 27 in the fall. We’ve seen it as low as $380 in the past, but recently it’s hovered around $25 off, so anything in the $400 range will be a great time to buy one. U.S. Prime Day price: You can save $25 on the iPad mini right now, which is something, but a far cry from its usual sale event pricing – we’ve seen it drop to $349. We’re expecting to see the iPad mini drop to at least $399 for Prime Day, so we recommend waiting until prices drop further. iPad mini (128GB): $474 U.K. Prime Day price: The pricing situation is similar on Amazon’s U.K. site, which is selling the iPad mini for around £30 off. We recommend waiting for a better price as we have previously seen it go lower. iPad mini (128GB): £468 M4 iPad Air Apple Inc The iPad Air is Apple’s only tablet to get an update in 2026, and we haven’t seen much in the way of significant savings yet. The various sizes and storage configurations have been hovering at $40-$50 off for several weeks, so we expect Prime Day to bring lower prices of around $100 off. But if you want a full-sized tablet, the Air represents the sweet spot for screen size and performance. U.S. Prime Day price: Amazon dropped the price of the 128GB 11-inch iPad Air down to $519, a savings of $80. The 13-inch model is down to $700, a savings of $100, and the best discount across all configurations. 13-inch iPad Air: $699 U.K. Prime Day price: Amazon has cut £20-£30 off the price of most iPad Air configurations, with the 11-inch iPad Air already dipping to the lowest prices we’ve seen for the iPad that was introduced in March, but like the U.S. store, we expect prices to drop further once Prime Day begins. 13-inch iPad Air: £768.99 iPad Pro Apple Inc The iPad Pro is Apple’s best tablet, with the fastest chip, most RAM, and best display. It’s probably more tablet than you need, but if you don’t mind paying a premium, you’ll be getting an incredible tablet. There’s an iPad for everyone.Foundry iPad: Best for students and budget buyers. iPad mini: Ideal for commuting, reading, and taking handwritten notes. iPad Air: Ideal for most people. iPad Pro: Best for professionals and artists. Apple sells four categories of this product: there’s the baseline iPad, the iPad mini, the iPad Air, and the iPad Pro. For dedicated buying advice (including whether or not this is a good time to buy) read about the Best iPad to buy and if you are a student, take a look at Best iPad for Students. iPad A16: Best Value iPad This is the baseline model, the cheapest iPad Apple sells, and normally we’d recommend it for those who just want a tablet for media consumption and browsing the internet on the sofa. But now isn’t a good time to pick up the A16 iPad, which came out in March 2025 and doesn’t support Apple Intelligence. An A19 model was expected to launch in the first half of this year, which obviously didn’t happen–but an update is definitely overdue, and could land any time. In other words, look for a solid discount (anywhere below $300/£290 for the 128GB model is worth considering), or wait. We recommend: Apple iPad (A16) Price When Reviewed: $349 Best Prices Today: $299 at Amazon | $299.99 at Target | $329 at B&H iPad mini: Best for Portability This is the smallest and most portable model. The current (7th-gen) iPad mini came out as long ago as October 2024, but thanks to its A17 Pro chip it does support Apple Intelligence, so there’s less motivation for Apple to replace it. Nevertheless, an 8th-gen iPad mini is likely to land before the end of 2026. On Amazon U.S. the lowest we’ve ever seen the 128GB model is $349, but anything below $400 is a solid deal. On the U.K. store, meanwhile, deals have historically been a little scarcer. The low point is £399, so Brits should be looking for somewhere in that range. We recommend: Apple iPad mini (A17 Pro) Price When Reviewed: $499 (128GB; Wi-Fi only) | $599 (256GB; Wi-Fi only) | $799 (512GB; Wi-Fi only) Best Prices Today: $449 at Amazon | $465 at Best Buy US | $487.39 at Walmart iPad Air M4: Best overall The intermediate model, with excellent features, strong specs, and two choices of screen size. The current 8th-gen model came out in March 2026 so there’s no danger of it getting replaced any time soon. The 11-inch Air has been as low as $520 in the past, so look for a similar discount. The 13-inch Air’s lowest ever price is just under $700. We recommend: Apple iPad Air 11-inch (M4, 2026) Price When Reviewed: $599 Best Prices Today: $519.99 at Amazon | $545 at Walmart | $559 at Best Buy US iPad Pro: Best for Creatives The top-end model. Very expensive but equipped with the very best specs and features. Mainly targeted at creative pros. The M5 iPad Pro (in two screen sizes) came out in October 2025; new M6 models are likely to arrive in spring 2027. The 11-inch Pro (with 256GB) once dipped briefly under $800, but that was something of an anomaly; anything under $900 is worth considering. The 13-inch Pro’s lowest ever price on Amazon was just under $1,150. We may not see any deals as good as that this time, but aim for $1,200 or lower. We recommend: Apple iPad Pro 11-inch (M5, 2025) Price When Reviewed: $999 Best Prices Today: $899 at Walmart | $899.99 at Amazon | $949 at B&H Prime Day iPad deals to avoid Dominik Tomaszewski / Foundry When deciding whether to shop for an iPad deal, we recommend you keep a few things in mind: If you’re considering an iPad as a laptop replacement, remember that adding a keyboard case can nearly double the cost, making it more expensive than a more powerful Mac. The arrival of the MacBook Neo has also weakened the value proposition of Apple’s entry-level tablets. The iPad (A16) is currently the only tablet in Apple’s active lineup that does not support Apple Intelligence. If AI features are important to you, consider the iPad mini (A17 Pro) or an iPad Air with an M1 chip or newer instead. Deals on older or refurbished iPads can be tempting, but check software support before buying. iPadOS 27 drops support for more older models than any previous release. Avoid paying extra for a Cellular model unless you truly need it. The 5G version typically costs more than $100 extra and may require a monthly data plan. If you usually carry an iPhone, using Personal Hotspot is often a much cheaper alternative. Casual users should also think twice before jumping on an iPad Pro (M5) deal. Unless you need the additional capabilities for demanding creative or professional workflows, the iPad Air delivers similar everyday performance at a significantly lower price. Likewise, don’t pay extra for the iPad Pro’s nano-texture glass unless you regularly work in bright or uncontrolled lighting conditions. While it can be valuable for creative professionals, most users who primarily use their iPad indoors won’t notice enough benefit to justify the added cost. Should you buy an iPad during Prime Day? Prime Day is widely considered one of the best times of the year to buy Apple products, alongside Black Friday, and with Apple saying it is going to have to raise prices, we think it might be the last time we will see low prices in a while. While we do expect Apple to update the iPad and iPad mini at some point in 2026, it’s only the iPad A16 that we would recommend not buying because it doesn’t support Apple Intelligence and therefore misses out on many of the most attractive features coming in iPadOS 27 later this year. There are a few other things to consider before making a purchase: Prime membership is required: Many of the best deals are exclusive to Amazon Prime members. If you’re not already subscribed, you might be able to take advantage of Amazon’s 30-day free trial or you could sign up for a month and cancel afterward. As well as getting free two-day shipping, Prime customers also get access to Prime Video and Music. Prime memberships cost $139 / £95 annually, or $14.99 / £8.99 / AU$6.99 every month. Other sales: If you miss Prime Day, you’ll have another chance to save during Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days in October, followed by Black Friday sales in November. Student Discounts: Students can take advantage of Apple’s “Back to School” promotion, which runs from June to September in the U.S. and July to October in the U.K, to get free AirPods with the purchase of a qualifying iPad or Mac. Students and educators can save significantly through the Apple Education Store. For example, students can save $50/£50 on the iPad Air and $100/£100 on the iPad Pro when shopping at Apple’s U.S. Education Store or Apple’s U.K. Education Store. Compare Prices: Amazon isn’t always the cheapest option. Retailers such as Walmart and Best Buy frequently run competing promotions around the time of Prime Day, so it’s worth comparing prices before buying.
