Kool Tools: iConnectMIDI

Would you like a little “jam” with your iOS device? If so, iConnectivity’s iConnectMIDI (http://www.iconnectmidi.com/) lets you connect your iPad, iPhone and iPod touch to digital musical instruments. It supports Mac OS X and Windows XP (or greater computers).

The iConnectMIDI — which has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of US$199.99 — is designed for professional and amateur musicians and allows them to connect an iOS device, load up an app, and start jamming. You can connect MIDI keyboards, guitar controllers, pedals, control surfaces, drum pads, DAWs and more.

The Collega for the iPad is one swanky case

Sena’s Collega for the iPad 2 case (http://www.senacases.com/apple/ipad-2-cases/collega-cases/) isn’t cheap at US$150, but it defines the word luxurious. I feel as if I should wear a top hat and tails when I use it. But it’s also practical with its compact all-in-one design.

First, let’s just get the look and feel tidbits out of the way. The Collega is one swanky case of rich, hand-crafted leather that’s gorgeous to behold and touch. The Sena case’s stitching is flawless with straight, tight seams.

Pantone reboots its colors to good effect

By Jay Nelson

I’ve used Pantone’s swatch books for more than 25 years, and I’m more excited about the new Pantone Plus Series (http://www.pantone.com) than any previous update to the Pantone Matching System.

With David Pogue as co-author (along with the talented Lesa Snider), “iPhoto ’11: The Missing Manual” (http://macte.ch/v8Q3G) has a lively, tongue-in-cheek approach that keeps things lively. But it’s also packed with useful info.
