Book Review: My New Mac Lion Edition

Posted by Greg Mills

I get email from book publishers and Mac related product companies quite often. Sometime, I wonder why no one told them the idea sucks and that they ought to work on a different idea. Sometimes, I am surprised that a new product or book really represents value to the Mac community despite my early misgivings.

Kool Tools: ScreenFlow 3

Sometimes it comes in handy to make a screen recording of something you’re doing on your Mac so you can show it to someone else. Enter ScreenFlow from Telestream (http://www.telestream.net/screen-flow/) a “professional screencasting studio” for Mac OS X 10.5 and higher.

Who needs the app? Let’s count the ways — or rather the people.

Premiere Elements 10 fills a void left by Final Cut Express

The new Premiere Elements 10 from Adobe (http://www.adobe.com) should fill the void for fans of the discontinued Final Cut Express. Plus, it’s even easier to learn than the Apple product.

You can quickly edit video footage and make movies using intelligent tools and “Smart” options that automatically fix audio problems, trim away bad footage, stabilize shaky shots and correct bad color and lighting problems. The Adobe video editing app lets you enjoy optimized HD editing and fix audio problems.

Photoshop Elements 10 — think Aperture Express

Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements (http://www.adobe.com) are two topnotch products for the Mac. Recently upgraded to version 10, the consumer photo- and video-editing software packages are available as standalone products or as a single retail package.
