Strophes is an indispensable complement to iTunes

Sometimes you run across a Mac app that’s so well designed and executed you add it to your “gotta have” arsenal. Such is the case with Strophes (http://stroph.es/), a new lyrics app for Mac OS X Lion. It costs US$4.99 and is available exclusively through Apple’s Mac App Store in the Music category.

I listen to a lot of music — and I like to know the lyrics to songs. Strophes automatically downloads and displays the lyrics of the songs you’re listening to. It’s compatible with iTunes, Spotify, Rdio, Radium and, with a downloadable Safari extension, YouTube (more on that in a moment).

Cloud Hybrid great for sharing large files across a network

Akitio’s Cloud Hybrid — a hybrid enclosure that combines a personal cloud network attached storage and USB 3.0 direct access storage — is a solid solution for those looking to store and share large files across a network.

Akitio’s Cloud Hybrid attaches directly to the home network, providing access to all data within the home network. Equipped with an UPnP-AV media server, you can stream content within your local network to any available UPnP-AV and DLNA compatible devices.

Slate Shield useful for using your iPad for photos, video

By Danny Winget

We love our iPads. We love using them in every way to consume daily media and touch our way into productivity. There was one thing I loathed using on the iPad 2 — its abysmal rear camera. Since the launch of the new iPad, the inclusion of the 5MP camera with advanced optics has increased users interest in taking more videos and pictures with the device.

Alien Skin offers strong update to Blow Up plug-in

By Daniel M. East

It’s hard to avoid artifacts and blur when you need to print an image larger than its current resolution allows. There are several solutions for enlarging an image, and given how far these technologies have come, it’s more about selecting the most appropriate solution for your specific situation. Alien Skin (http://www.alienskin.com) has a strong update to their US$199 Blow Up plug-in for Photoshop and Lightroom that you may wish to size up for yourself.
