Security Update corrects Software Update flaw

Apple has released Security Update 7-12-02 for Mac OS X, which resolves a much publicized security hole in the Software Update mechanism. “Security Update 7-12-02 increases the security of the Software Update process for systems with Software Update client 1.4.5 or earlier. Packages presented via the Software Update mechanism are now cryptographically signed, and the new Software Update client 1.4.6 checks for a valid signature before installing new packages.

Online Mac users smarter than the average bear

Online Mac users are more educated, live in higher income households, and are more familiar with the Internet than their PC counterparts, a new study from Nielsen/NetRatings finds. As reported by AtNewYork.com (and noted by MacSurfer), the study found that 70.2 percent of Mac users have a college or postgraduate degree, compared to just 54.2 percent of the overall online population.
