Halo for Mac to ship next year

Microsoft Game Studios today announced that Halo, its blockbuster Xbox game, will ship for the Mac and PC next summer. The game is being ported to the Mac by Westlake Studios and will be published by Bold. Halo was originally announced for the Mac and PC more than two years ago by Bungie Studios. Bungie was later acquired by Microsoft, which turned the title into an Xbox exclusive.

Apple has launched a new Hot Deal promotion that offers a free Epson photo printer with the purchase of any iMac, eMac, or iBook. The “Print and Save” promotion offers a free Epson Stylus 820 printer (via mail-in rebate) or a US$100 mail-in rebate on any Epson Stylus Photo printer with a $100 suggested retail price or higher. The offer expires September 30, 2002.

THHDesign releases Podtext 2.0, BulkLoader 1.0

THHDesign has released Podtext 2.0, an application for transferring text notes to the iPod, and BulkLoader 1.0, an application for automatically downloading sequentially numbered or named files. Podtext supports all the characters in the Mac charset and supports notes up to 2,000 characters long. The new version can split longer texts into multiple smaller files. For applications are available as free downloads for Mac OS X and Mac OS 8 and 9.

Desktop pictures weekly recap

During the past week, MacDesktops has published 14 new pictures, including Butterfly (Fauna), Daffodil (Flora), Kate Moss (Show some skin), and Modern Inspiration (Art). Mandolux has 16 new desktops pictures: 10 Apache Helicopters (aerospace), three Giant/Dual Monitor, two Technosis (abstract), and one Money (world currency/paper money). Mando is also soliciting scans of paper money from foreign countries to add to his Money series.

360Works announces WooF, a JDBC adaptor for using WebObjects with FileMaker
Pro.

360Works today announced the beta release of their WooF framework for
WebObjects. This software allows WebObjects to utilize FileMaker Pro as a
back-end database for creating high-volume, scalable web applications.

This software will allow FileMaker developers to create Java-based web
sites that will greatly exceed the transaction volumes that would have been
possible with traditional FileMaker web publishing techniques, such as
using the built-in Web Companion software.
