The MacHack planning committee has announced the dates for next year’s MacHack conference. MacHack 18 will kick off at 00:01 ET on June 19 and will run continuously through June 21. Panic revamps Audion MP3 software

Panic has released Audion 3, a major upgrade to its MP3 software. Audion 3 features support for the mp3PRO format, iPod support, a LAME encoder, broadcasting features, and much more. Panic has put together a note explaining the mp3PRO format, which allows audio to be encoded at half the bit rate of MP3 while retaining full quality. Audion 3 sells for US$29.95; users of version 1 or 2 can upgrade for $17.95.

Microsoft faults Apple marketing, questions future commitment

A Wall Street Journal article (paid subscription required) discusses the displeasure that some major developers are voicing over the sales of Mac OS X software and Apple’s promotion of the operating system. In particular, Microsoft blames Apple’s marketing for lackluster sales of Office v.X: 300,000 copies to date, behind the pace of 750,000 it wanted for its first year, come November.
