RealPlayer security holes affect Macs

eEye has uncovered new security holes affecting RealNetworks’ media players, including the Mac version. “The flaws could be exploited via a malicious Web page or a RealMedia file run from a local drive to take over a user’s system or delete files,” reports TechWorld. “The most serious of the three new bugs involves malformed calls, and could be exploited via a player embedded in a malicious site to execute arbitrary code.

RealNetworks targets iTunes with song sale, ad campaign

In a move aimed squarely at luring iTunes customers, RealNetworks today announced that it has slashed song pricing to 49 cents and album pricing to $4.99 for a limited time. The price cuts are part of the company’s new “Freedom of Choice” marketing campaign to tout its Harmony technology, which allows songs purchases from the RealNetworks Music Store to be played on Apple’s iPod.
