Apple now number two among US smartphone vendors

According to comScore (http://www.comscore.com), a “group that measures the digital world,” 74.6 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in April 2011, up 13% from the three-month period ending in January 2011.

Google Android ranked as the top operating system with 36.4% of U.S. smartphone subscribers, up 5.2 percentage points. Apple also gained share, capturing the #2 position with 26% of the smartphone market. RIM ranked third with 25.7% share, followed by Microsoft (6.7%) and Palm (2.6%).

Second guessing Apple is a growth industry, as the deeply held secrets that are seldom leaked early are dramatically confirmed by a beaming Steve Jobs only as products are launched. We know a lot based on what is already known about existing products and logically added technology that fits.

iPhone/iPod touch/iPad apps for June 2

Here are the latest iPhone/iPod touch/iPod/iPad apps. You can find ’em at the Apple App Store (http://www.itunes.com/appstore/).

Apple has updated iMovie for the iPhone and iPad and GarageBand for the iPad. The former adds support for playing audio over through high definition TVs with the Apple Digital AV Adapter. The latter adds support for wireless audio playback via AirPlay, along with support for importing several audio file formats.

Greg’s Bite: The clouds all seem to leak data

As you can see by the image at the right, I have discovered an image of a prototype smartphone reportedly under development by the Nokia/Microsoft team. It turns out they have turned to another well known company for product form factor/design support.  This image has not been verified to belong to Nokia/ Microsoft, but looks suspiciously authentic.
