Ogg Drop 1.0a3 is an encoder for Macs that will convert AIFF, AIFC, Audio CD tracks, uncompressed QuickTime files, and System Sounds to the Ogg Vorbis format, a highly compressed format similar to MP3. New to this latest pre-release version is the support for the recently released RC2 encoding spec, although no Ogg Vorbis players that support this spec are available for the Mac yet (the beta 4 library, whose files can be played on a Mac, is also included). Ogg Drop is available free of charge.

MacExpo 2001, the UK Mac show that runs from November 22-24, is offering an additional 3,000 free passes to the show, reports Macworld UK. The show’s organizers offered a similar promotion earlier this summer. The standard admission fee is normally £10.
