What I want in the next iMac

I suspect we’ll see new iMacs introduced in the September/October timeframe in time for the back-to-school shopping season). Here’s what I expect to see — as well as some things I hope to see.

The next iMac will probably include USB 3.0 and HDMI ports. Naturally, it will include speed boosts; I suspect we’ll see a high-end six-core model running Intel’s 3.2GHz Core i7-970 processor. Or perhaps even the 3.33GHz Core i7-980X Extreme Edition, Both feature Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost features and support 1066MHz DDR3 memory.

Quirky releases Tilt stand for the iPhone 4G

Quirky (http://www.quirky.com/?utm_medium=release&utm_source=tilt) has released Tilt, a community-developed case for the iPhone 4. The bumper-style case and stand costs US$28 and is designed to protect the edges of the smartphone.

The Tilt is constructed of plastic with a soft rubber front face and faceted edges. The sides of the case are angled for headphone cord wrapping, making your phone easier to grip. The Tilt also has a built-in stand function, so you can snap the back hinge to 90 degrees.

‘Silicon Alley Insider’: Apple wanted to buy Palm

Apple was considering buying Palm recently, along with Google and Research in Motion, according to “Silicon Alley Insider” (http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-rim-google-hp-palm-2010-7), quoting “an anonymous source familiar with the negotiations.” However, the companies were outbid by HP, which acquired Palm for US$1.2 billion in April.

Sustainable Softworks has released Phone Amego 1.1.14 (http://www.sustworks.com/site/prod_phoneAmego_help/PhoneAmegoHelp.html), an update of the Mac OS X (10.5 and later) tool designed to make using your phone easier when you’re near your computer by providing on-screen caller ID, letting you click to dial a phone number from your Address Book or on your screen, and optionally dialing through Google Voice. This release adds Bluetooth speakerphone capability so you can answer a call from your Mac without touching your phone.
