Apple TV has announced a new comedy-drama “Lenni,” starring Academy Award nominee Toni Collette (“Hereditary,” “Wayward”).

She stars as the title character, a divorced social worker who, after a family tragedy, tries to protect her loved ones from the rough-and-tumble of life. Produced by award-winning production companies Made Up Stories and Keshet International, the series is based on the hit Norwegian show “Pernille,” created by Henriette Steenstrup.

“Lenni” is directed by Emmy and BAFTA Award winner Dearbhla Walsh (“Bad Sisters,” “Margo’s Got Money Troubles”) and adapted by Sarah Scheller (“The Letdown,” “Strife”). Production is currently underway in Sydney, Australia, supported by the New South Wales government through Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund.

Here’s how the comedy-drama is described: “Lenni” is a darkly comedic mystery about family — what it means to have one, to lose one, to pull one apart. Lenni, a child welfare worker and divorced mother of two, spends her days fighting for other people’s families while her own is in a constant state of hilarious chaos. The season follows Lenni through a new case, where the stakes couldn’t be higher as her work and personal life collide.

Joining Collette in the cast are Ciarán Hinds (“Game of Thrones”), Dan Wyllie (“Love My Way”), Josh McKenzie (“La Brea”), Celeste Barber (“The Letdown”), Genevieve Hegney (“Colin From Accounts”), Arka Das (“The Airport Chaplain”) and Wayne Blair (“Total Control”).
