Macromedia releases Flash Player 7 beta
Macromedia has released a beta version of Flash Player 7, the next version of its Web browser plug-in for Internet Explorer 5.2, Netscape 7.x, Mozilla 1.x, AOL 7, Opera 6, and Safari 1.0. The new release enhances video performance by 15-70%, improves video quality, and boosts ActionScript performance.

BusinessWeek reports that companies are finding the combination of Mac OS X and Xserve “a viable, sometimes cheaper, alternative to Windows-based networks.” The publication talks with three companies about Mac server solutions, including RiskWise, which screens credit-card applications and does fraud detection, and Target Health, a pharmaceutical research company.
