The Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) today announced the establishment of “PictBridge,” an industry standard enabling, among other things, the direct printing of photos from a digital still camera without the need to use a computer. The technology was originally proposed last December as “DPS” by Canon, Fuji, HP, Olympus, Epson and Sony, with the specification being adopted by CIPA for formal standardization. By connecting a PictBridge-enabled digital camera to a PictBridge-enabled printer with a single cable, users are able to control the print settings using their camera and produce high quality photos without using a PC.
