DJs using iPods instead of vinyl

Ben Kirkendoll represents a new wave of DJs who are trading their vinyl for MP3s, an Associated Press article explains. Kirkendoll uses two 10GB iPods plugged into a mixer to entertain the crowds at Brooklyn’s BQE club. “Part of the beauty of MP3s, is that a regular guy with a day job and a passion for music can be a DJ without years of practicing and thousands of dollars scouring record shops for those rare must-haves,” Kirkendoll said.

EarthGlobe shows you the world

EarthGlobe, a new Mac OS X freeware application from Gary Martin, is now available. EarthGlobe is a real-time, OpenGL rendered globe designed as a sister application to MoonDock. The application provides a lightweight view of the Earth’s day-light/seasonal cycles and takes up few system resources so it can be left running on your desktop. This release (v0.9) is a preview version and the author encourages feedback from users for upcoming features.
