Apple posts iTunes 2.0.1 for Mac OS X; corrects major bug

After posting — and then removing — iTunes 2 for Mac OS X earlier today, Apple has made available iTunes 2.0.1 for Mac OS X. The new version corrects a bug that could erase the files on a user’s drive under Mac OS X in some cases when mutliple drives or partitions were mounted. Some readers, as well as a MacMinute associate, experienced this problem. While a warning regarding iTunes 2.0 for Mac OS X now accompanies the iTunes download page, Apple has made no mention as to whether data recovery will be possible or not.

Apple releases iTunes 2.0

Apple has released iTunes 2.0 for download for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. Among the software’s new features is a 10-band equalizer, the ability to crossfade between songs, an Apple-engineered Sound Enhancer, and iPod compatibility. The new version can also burn CDs up to twice as fast as before. [Updated 18:28 – Apple has pulled the Mac OS X version of iTunes 2, which is now listed as “coming soon.”]
