EMC acquires Retrospect maker Dantz

EMC Corporation today announced the acquisition of Dantz, the developer of the Retrospect backup and recovery software for Mac OS X. Dantz, founded in 1984, will continue to operate in Walnut Creek, California. Dantz’s president and CEO, Larry Zulch, will report to Dave DeWalt and Mark Lewis, co-leaders of the EMC Software Group. Dantz Retrospect 6.0 now available for download

Dantz has announced the immediate availability of Retrospect 6.0, the latest version of the company’s popular backup and restore software. The Desktop edition (US$129; $59.95 upgrade) of Retrospect 6.0 offers protection for Macs running Mac OS X Panther, delivers “significantly improved” backup performance, and can protect up to three networked Mac, Red Hat Linux, or Windows machines.

Dantz updates Retrospect

Dantz has posted Retrospect 5.0.236, the latest version of its popular software for backing up and restoring volumes. The update incorporates support for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and provides fixes for unexpected behavior in Mac OS X and Mac OS 9. Dantz recommends that all customers with Retrospect 5.0 update to this latest version.
