EU legislation could force Apple to change software policies

Neelie Kroes may also launch a probe into interoperability between various smartphone platforms, including iPhone, reports “Rethink Wireless” (http://www.rethink-wireless.com/2010/07/05/apple-face-eu-probe-new-antitrust-rules.htm).

Kroes has already fined Microsoft $1.4bn for lack of software openness, and is now focusing on whether smartphone vendors comply with new European interoperability rules. Kroes specifically named Apple’s App Store as an example of a closed environment.

‘MUG Event Calendar’: MacSpeech, Wi-Fi picnic, more

“The MUG Event Calendar” roars back to life this week, with a wide variety of speakers, topics and presentations.

Jay Gonzales of MacSpeech will present to a California group, a Mac dealer will show off the iPad in Kansas, “free stuff” will be identified at a Florida group, an annual “Wi-Fi picnic” will be held in New Jersey, and Time Machine and iPhoto backups will be the focus at at group in Australia.

iWeb SEO Tool for iWeb updated to version 1.9

Rage Software has released iWeb SEO Tool 1.9 (http://www.ragesw.com/products/iweb-seo-tool.html), an update of their utility for iWeb users to optimize their web sites for search engines. It’s free for all iWeb users. (iWeb is the web creation component of Apple’s iLife suite.).

Version 1.9 now allows iWeb blog pages to be properly optimized for search engines and will work with iDisk syncing enabled. Previous versions required iDisk syncing to be disabled in order to use all of iWeb SEO Tool’s features.

Paragon Software Group has released a mobile version of the UEFA Football Dictionary for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The US$15.99 reference source provides trilingual translations or monolingual word definitions in three official UEFA languages — German, English and French — of all terms related to football.
