Does Apple plan on replacing iDVD with cloud storage?

Recently I lamented that Apple seems about to drop iDVD from the iLife suite. I think that’s a mistake, but “Macsimum” reader John Konopka points out that Apple often gives us a replacement if they drop something.

Could it be that the giant server site that Apple is building in Maiden, North Carolina, will be the replacement for iDVD? Rather than burning DVDs Apple may want us to send movies to the cloud from which they can be accessed almost anywhere.

VueScan for Mac OS X gets maintenance update

Hamrick Software has released Vuescan 8.6.48, a new version of the VueScan software for Mac OS X that’s designed to let users produce better digital images from color snapshots, negatives, slides and documents. It’s a maintenance update with some bug fixes.

The Standard Edition of VueScan costs US$39.95 and the Professional Edition is $79.95 for a single user license. Multi-user licenses are available. A fully functional, trial copy of VueScan is available for download from the Hamrick web site (http://www.hamrick.com).

Mailings for Mac OS X adds Progress button

Limit Point Software has released Mailings 1.9.78 (http://www.limit-point.com/Mailings/Mailings.htm), an update of the application for batch emailing that delivers any web page or plain text document with attachments to multiple recipients for marketing, news announcements, product updates, etc. In the new version, a new button on the Mailer window named “Progress” enables you to preview the settings on the progress window, or re-open the progress window when a mail batch has completed or been aborted.
