It’s funny how most Apple products, before their introduction, are predicted to bomb. The Apple Watch is the leader in global smartphone sales. However, a March 2015 search data suggest that consumer excitement over Apple Watch is lagging behind other Apple products and tech developments, according to The Next Web.

The report had this to say:

Interest in Apple Watch has been climbing this year and was the 49th most popular search term for driving traffic to news websites over the 28 days to March 24, up 25% from January. However, Google trends show that search interest in Apple Watch peaked a day after the March 9 launch event and has since settled down to levels on par with the preceding weeks.

At Apple’s site, Watch has risen to become the seventh most popular page over the 28 days. There was a spike on the March 9 announcement day when visits were up 45% compared to the prior two weeks’ average to 20.2 million visits. However, tut that compares to a 310% increase when Apple unveiled the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus last year when visits rose to 46.6 million.

The Next Web article also looked at popular pages for tech news site TechCrunch for the 28 days and found the highest place for an Apple Watch article was 14th place for the site’s live blog of the launch event.

Obviously, speculation over Apple’s smartphone sales vastly underestimated the demand there would be.
