Insider Software has announces Smasher 2, offering Mac users automatic preventive font maintenance, previewing and font integrity verification. It requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher.

The app works unattended to eliminate corruption of font caches and temporary files, so fonts always appear and print correctly. Smasher 2’s new interface and functionality includes an all-new font validation and verification engine, font previewing, a one-step, drag and drop importer and more.

Smasher’s set-it-and-forget-it functionality eliminates cache-related problems on an automatic, ongoing basis, according to the folks at Insider Software. Like a virus checker, it runs regularly to clean and maintain the integrity of your Mac and ensure that you start with pristine font, print and preference caches every time you use your computer.

Smasher offers support for OpenType, Mac TrueType, Windows TrueType and Mac Type1 Postscript fonts. Font archiving creates a backup copy of your fonts to  a zip file or disk image. There’s support for Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop Creative Suite 5 (CS5) application caches and more.

In a limited-time, introductory offer, Smasher 2 is available for purchase by new users at the Insider Software website (http://www.insidersoftware.com) for $34.95. After the introductory period, the price rises to a suggested price of $49.95. Registered users of Smasher 1.x and FontAgent Pro can purchase Smasher 2 at the upgrade price of $24.95. The new release is available at no cost to users who purchased Smasher after Feb. 1 of this year, or who have current Smasher support and maintenance agreements.
