Onset announces expanded measurement options for HOBO data loggers

Onset (http://www.onsetcomp.com), a supplier of data loggers, has broadened its offerings for energy and environmental monitoring by expanding the range of measurement options for its line of HOBO U12 data loggers.

Specifically, multi-channel versions of HOBO U12 data loggers can now measure and record kilowatts, air velocity, gauge pressure, differential pressure, DC current and other energy and environmental parameters. The expanded measurements are possible through the introduction of a new, compact power adapter.

Default Folder for Mac OS X updated to version 4.3.8

St. Clair Software has updated Default Folder (http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/index.html), its utility for enhancing Open and Save dialogs in Mac OS X, to version 4.3.8. You can now see the width and height of an image in Default Folder X’s popular preview pane.

This release also corrects an odd problem: new MacBook Pros with automatic GPU switching would think that Default Folder X needed the high-powered NVIDIA graphics card, resulting in poor battery life.  This misunderstanding has been fixed.

Jedit X text editor for Mac OS X gets maintenance update

Artman21 (http://www.artman21.com/en/jedit_x/) has updated Jedit X, the Cocoa-based text editor for Mac OS X, to version 2.2.4. It’s a maintenance update with four improvements and two bug fixes.

Jedit X is an Universal Binary app so runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. It requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher. The cost is US$28 for a single-user license, though version 2.2.4 is a free update for registered users.

The Mac still has plenty of room for growth — and new features

Still think that there’s no room for growth or innovation on the Mac? Well, to the naysayers I must point out that there’s plenty of room for both.

In 2005, market research firm IDC pegged Apple’s share of the U.S. PC market at 4 %. In the first quarter of 2010, that number had grown to 6.4%. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimates that for every half-percentage point of market share growth Apple boosts its sales by about US$3 billion.
