Greg’s bite: TV’s changing channel

Things are starting to fall into place on the Apple TV front. Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy, as expected, under great market pressure from NetFlix and RedBox. Apple will seal the doom of Blockbuster by adding one more strong competitor to the mix of TV content providers.  

Blockbuster expects to shed about US$900,000 million of debt and leases by going bankrupt. While they will be leaner and meaner, it is far from certain they will survive.

Verizon CEO hopes for an iPhone on the company’s upcoming 4G network

He said nothing about an iPhone for the company’s current network, but said he hopes Apple will come around and allow Verizon to sell the phone for a new network it is building, reports the “Associated Press” (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100923/ap_on_hi_te/us_tec_verizon_iphone?). The “4G” network hasn’t yet opened for service and won’t be complete next year.

According to “Trade Arabia” (http://www.tradearabia.com/news/newsdetails.asp?Sn=IT&artid=186234), Eisalat’s 3G mobile broadband network covers 99% of UAE’s populated area and provides customers with speeds of up to 21 Mbps. Customers can subscribe to the iPhone 4 with several voice and data plan options on a one-year contractual basis.
