iPod remains top MP3 player

Apple sold 9.05 million iPods in the the fiscal 2010 fourth quarter that ended Sept. 25. The device remains the top selling MP3 player, based on the latest NPD data.

And the iTunes store brought in over US$1 billion, says Apple Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer. iOS device sales passed 125 million in September, he adds. Apple says there are now 200,000 registered iOS developers.

Apple retail stores see record breaking quarter

Apple retail store revenue was $3.57 billion for the the fiscal 2010 fourth quarter. That compares to $2.04 billion in the previous quarter, an increase of 75%.

Apple Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer said that the retail stores sold 874,000 Macs in the quarter compared to 670,000 the previous quarter. That’s up 30%. And — you guessed it — he said that half of these Macs were sold to new users. That’s the stat mentioned during every quarterly report.

Apple sees record Mac, iPhone and iPad sales

Apple has announced its financial results for its fiscal 2010 fourth quarter that ended Sept. 25. And the company reported record Mac, iPhone and iPad sales.

Apple posted record revenue of US$20.34 billion and a net quarterly profit of $4.31 billion, or $4.64 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $12.21 billion and net quarterly profit of $2.53 billion, or $2.77 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 36.9% compared to 41.8% in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 57 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Steam gaming platform surpasses 30 million account mark

Valve (http://www.valvesoftware.com) has announced the latest growth data for Steam, a platform for Mac and PC games and digital entertainment, revealing new account growth of 178%, sales growth of over 200%, over 200 Steamworks games shipped to date, and more.

During the past 12 months the platform had year-over-year new user growth of 178%, pushing the total number of active accounts to over 30 million, with over 1,200 games now offered. Peak simultaneous player numbers were also up to over three million, with over six million unique gamers accessing Steam each day.
