Virtual Programming acquires Syncode

Virtual Programming has announced the purchase of Australian developer Syncode (http://syncode.com.au/), which is known for its Synotes, Syncopy, and iTweetReply utilities for Mac OS X and iOS.

Virtual Programming will immediately assume ongoing support for all three products, as well as development of a new product listed as “Coming soon” on Syncodes web site. Additional software development is currently being discussed.

Simiula has announced KissOnThefly 1.0, a virtual kissing app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. It allows you to send virtual kisses with animated postcards with sound. As an Introductory offer, from Oct. 26-31, KissOnThefly 1.0 is free; after this it will cost $0.99.

Apple hosting ‘secret’ iOS developer meeting next week?

“Silicon Alley Insider” (http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-ios-developer-event-2010-10) says that Apple is hosting an event for iOS developers in California next week. Quoting “an industry source,” the publication says it may be a more intimate version of the iPhone Tech Talks that Apple hosted around the world last year.

This year, app publishers may get some extra face time with Apple engineers, and perhaps some hands-on development help. The big idea, it seems, is an effort to improve the quality of iOS apps available in Apple’s App Store, says “Silicon Alley Insider.”

Apple, Gemalto working on ‘special’ SIM card?

Sources inside European carriers have reported that Apple has been working with SIM-card manufacturer Gemalto to create a special SIM card that would allow consumers in Europe to buy a phone via the web or at the Apple Store and get the phones working using the Apple App Store, reports “GigaOm” (http://gigaom.com/2010/10/27/is-apple-about-to-cut-out-the-carriers/).
