At this week’s NAB show in Las Vegas, AJA Video (http://www.aja.com) — a manufacturer of professional video interface and conversion solutions, has collaborated with Avid to enable the AJA Ki Pro portable digital video recording device to record Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime files that are directly compatible with Avid Media Composer and Symphony systems via the Avid Media Access (AMA) architecture.

The company has also introduced five new Mini Coverter products and a team-up with CineForm.

The AJA Ki Pro is a portable, rugged tapeless video recording device that records high-quality Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime files onto computer-friendly media. It connects production directly with post by enabling filmmakers, broadcasters, video professionals and prosumers to skip the process of re-rendering to an editing codec by providing immediate access to full raster edit-ready files directly from camera. Through its AMA plug-in architecture, Avid enables users to connect the AJA Ki Pro media to Mac-based Media Composer and Symphony systems to view, edit and play back ProRes QuickTime files with access to all clip metadata.

AJA Ki Pro support within Avid systems is planned for availability in June/ The AJA Ki Pro has supported direct recording of Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime files within Apple Final Cut Pro since its release in 2009.

AJA’s Mini Converter products include the FiDO family of SDI/optical fiber converters. FiDO (Fiber Digital Optical) is a family of five SDI/Optical Fiber converters that enable the transport of SDI, HD-SDI and 3G SDI over distances of up to 10km. Designed for outdoor or indoor use, FiDO converters pass the complete SDI signal (including audio and/or meta data), and meet all relevant SMPTE specifications. The FiDO family of converters are available this month from AJA’s worldwide network of channel partners. Manufacturer’s suggested retail pricing begins at US$445.

AJA is also teaming up with workflow solution developer CineForm to provide Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and other Mac and Windows-based NLE and effects software users with a variety of ways to output stereoscopic 3D material using the AJA KONA 3 video capture card through CineForm’s Neo3D software. CineForm’s Neo3D software delivers a 3D editorial workflow, enabling users to create 3D QuickTime or AVI files that include temporally-aligned left and right eyes and edit 3D projects in real time with full frame rate playback to an external 3D monitor.

With expanded support for Neo3D software, AJA KONA 3 enables direct play-out of discrete left eye/right eye images and/or a muxed 3D image. After making the appropriate selection in the CineForm Neo3D software, users with 3D-capable LCD monitors or 3D projectors can view stereo content by configuring the KONA 3 for stereo output via the AJA Control Panel application. AJA KONA 3 Mac software with support for CineForm Neo3D is planned for availability in May, with PC support coming the third quarter of the year. Both will be free downloads for all KONA 3 owners.
