Light Year Software (http://lightyearsoftware.com/) has introduced In
Season, a produce shopping guide for the iPhone and iPod touch. It’s
available for US$1.99 at the Apple App Store.

It features a database of common fruits and vegetables with
information about when they’re in season. Additionally, the guide
includes background information about the food, how to pick the most
exceptional selections at the market, as well as how to best store
them at home.

“Seasonal produce always tastes better and costs less because supply
is higher. Farmers and distributors alike spend less money and effort
getting the food to market,” say the folks at Light Year Software.
And locally-grown produce is even better, since it travels a shorter
distance and farmers can offer heirloom varieties that typically
cannot survive a long trip to market.
