Apple VP Jonathan Ive honored by the Queen

Jonathan Ive, Apple’s VP of Industrial Design has been awarded with the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) title by the Queen, notes Macworld UK. In a statement Apple said of the news: “We are as proud as could be that Jonny is receiving such a prestigous commendation.” The story notes: “The motto of the Order of the British Empire is ‘For God and the Empire.’ The order was instituted by George V in 1917 to recognise all levels of service to the country during the First World War.

Ambrosia releases EasyEnvelopes 1.0.2

Ambrosia Software has announced the release of EasyEnvelopes 1.0.2, a free Mac OS X Tiger Dashboard widget for quickly and easily printing envelopes. “You can use EasyEnvelopes to quickly print a one-off envelope, or utilize its tight integration with Address Book which allows you to quickly find a person’s address to print an envelope for. It handles USPS bar codes for both 5 and 9 digit bar codes, and boasts many time-saving nicities,” notes the company.

BeLight Software and MacMinute have announced the results of their poll on the most significant Mac-related event of the year 2005. According to the survey, 66% of Mac users consider Apple’s switch to Intel as the major event in Macintosh world. Although the opinions varied from complete denial of that move to trust and admiration, most voters have admitted that it was a paradigm shift in Apple’s strategy.

iLoad: Load Music and Videos to iPod w/o a Computer

Campbell, CA — Now loading your music and video is as easy as enjoying it!

Wingspan, a Silicon Valley technology startup, announced iLoad and iLoad-v,
devices that load music and video onto your iPod without using a computer.
ILoad takes CDs and loads them directly onto the iPod. iLoad-v connects to
cable or satellite “boxes” and loads video and music directly onto the iPod.

iLoad has a suggested retail price of $249 and iLoad-v has a suggested
retail price of $149.

Both products are scheduled for release in early Spring 2006.
