DEVONtechnologies today announced Desktop Transporter 2.0, a remote desktop solution that allows users to use other Macs on either the local network or the Internet without physically accessing them. Like the much more expensive Apple Remote Desktop, Desktop Transporter shows the screen of the remote Mac either in a window or in full screen and allows the user to interact with the other computer as if it was the local one. Version 2.0, which is a Universal Binary for both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs, is a major update to the previously available version 1.4. A new menu extra makes it possible to access remote Macs without launching the main Desktop Transporter application, while a background helper application takes care of sharing desktops even when the menu extra and main application are not running. Desktop Transporter sells for US$29.95.
