iMovie HD to be offered separately for $10? [updated]

According to a page buried in Apple’s Web site, iMovie HD–part of the company’s new US$79 iLife ’05 suite–will be available separately for $10. iMovie HD allows users to capture and edit High Definition Video (HDV) from the new generation of HDV camcorders. It also includes Magic iMovie, which automatically imports your video into separate clips, adds titles, transitions and music, all in one step. In addition, iMovie HD offers speed enhancements, non-destructive trimming, more transitions and effects, and support for MPEG-4 video.

Needham analyst: Mac mini to spur halo effect

Analysts say the new low-price Mac mini could incite more Windows users who own iPods to buy their first Mac, providing a boost to the so called “halo effect.” Charles Wolf, an analyst at Needham & Co., said that he now estimates 11 percent of Windows iPod users may switch to a Mac now that the Mac mini is coming to market. Before that, he assumed the rate would be closer to 4 percent. “The iPods only failure has been its inability to stimulate meaningful purchases of Macintoshes,” Wolf said.

Mac mini to be hard nut to crack

Apple says that memory, AirPort Extreme and internal Bluetooth upgrades to its new Mac mini “must be performed by an Apple Authorized Service provider” (such as an Apple Store) and that “fees may apply.” However, according to Macintouch, doing upgrades yourself does not void the warranty unless you damage something.
