Apple looks to iPod shuffle to raise market share in Japan

Apple hopes to boost its share of Japan’s digital music player market to 80 percent from around 50 percent now. Apple Japan vice president Yoshiaki Sakito said the company will reach its goal thanks to the new iPod shuffle. Sakito said Apple has already received more pre-orders for it in Japan than those placed for the iPod mini. Sakito also said that a Japanese version of Apple’s iTunes Music Store is expected to launch before the end of the year.

Apple, not Dell, best bet for investors looking at PC makers

Despite Dell CEO Michael Dell forecasting the demise of Apple back in 2001, some say Apple–not Dell–is now the best bet for investors interested in backing a computer maker. “Long an ugly duckling for investors, the Cupertino, Calif., company has been the soaring swan of the market for the past year. Its stock is up 176 per cent in the past 12 months (it closed yesterday at $70.10), compared with 13 per cent for Dell.

Think Secret owner seeks legal aid in Apple case

Nicholas Ciarelli, the 19-year-old editor and publisher of Think Secret, is hoping to find free or low cost legal representation in his lawsuit with Apple, which sued the site earlier this month claiming that it illegally published company trade secrets. Ciarelli said Friday that he can’t afford to defend himself. “A lot of lawyers are interested in my case, but few are able to do it for free or low cost,” Ciarelli, of Cazenovia, New York, said.
