Macromedia on Monday announced Director MX 2004, the latest release of its popular multimedia authoring tool. Director MX 2004 brings support for JavaScript, Flash MX 2004 content, DVD-Video, and the ability to create projector files for both Mac and Windows platforms in “one simple step.” Macromedia Director MX 2004, expected to ship in February, is priced at US$1,199 for new users, and $399 for upgrades from Director 8.5 and Director MX.

Toon Boom Studio 2.5 sneak peeked

Toon Boom Technologies will be offering a “sneak peek” of Toon Boom Studio 2.5 for the Mac this week at Macworld Expo. The update –- due in the spring — will include several new features, such as sound scrubbing in the Timeline, the ability to draw in Sceneplanning and support for scanning. As previously reported, Apple will webcast Steve Jobs’ Macworld Expo San Francisco keynote on Tuesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. PT. “Watch Apple CEO Steve Jobs deliver the Macworld Expo keynote address from Moscone Center in San Francisco,” reads a page on Apple’s Web site that was re-posted on Sunday after being unavailable since Dec. 22. “See the live webcast right here on January 6 at 9am PT exclusively in QuickTime and MPEG-4. The Babel Company has released Impression 2.0, the latest version of its backup software for Mac OS X. Version 2.0 offers the most substantial update thus far, according to the developer. The UI has been completely redesigned, scratch space can now be selected for disks other than the startup drive, individual files can be added to the backup list, Unicode file name parsing has been greatly improved and several bugs have fixed.

Matias Corp. has announced a new iPod Armor aluminum hard case that sports docking port access and is compatible with every iPod Apple has shipped. The US$49.95 case comes bundled with an “Armor Clip” belt. Matias also has a new version of its $99.95 Tactile Pro Keyboard, which adds an Option Key Caps Feature. The Option key symbols are now printed on each key so you don’t need to load the Key Caps application anymore to find which key you need to press for the trademark symbol, the Euro symbol or others.
