Carly Fiorina, Hewlett-Packard’s chairman and chief executive officer, has unveiled the new iPod-based HP device at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The “HP Digital Music Player” that was shown is light blue in color, sports an “HP” logo on the back, and is “the first and only one,” according to Fiorina. As reported Thursday on MacMinute, HP and Apple have announced a strategic alliance to deliver an HP-branded music player based on Apple’s iPod, which is expected to ship in June “priced competitively to other digital music players currently available.” Also as part of the partnership, HP PCs and notebooks will come preinstalled with iTunes and “an easy-reference desktop icon” to point consumers directly to the iTunes Music Store. CNET News.com has a short video of Fiorina’s unveiling of the device and her words about the alliance with Apple.
