Gefen LCD monitors combine TV, computer functions

Gefen today announced a new line of smart monitors that function as a video player, television and computer monitor all in one unit. Currently available in 18 (US$799) and 14-inch ($699) models, each display provides a radiation and flicker-free flat panel that maintains a 1280×1024 resolution. Each sports a video input for VCR or camcorder connection, a digital input for DVD players and a television tuner that requires a cable hookup or antenna.

Apple being sued over Unix trademark

Apple is being sued by The Open Group, the company that claims ownership of the Unix trademark, for using the term “Unix” in conjunction with Mac OS X without a license, reports c|net. Apple has countersued and asked a judge to declare that the trademark is invalid, because the term Unix has become generic. “Though initiated nearly 18 months ago, the case has not yet gone to trial.

Acquisition file sharing client updated

Acquisition 0.94 is the latest version of Xlife’s Mac OS X client for the gnutella peer-to-peer file sharing network. This release adds support for browsing hosts via “acquisition://” URLs. It also lets you keep browsed hosts in the search drawer persistently. “These enhancements together mean that Acquisition can now closely match the behavior of the (since terminated) iTunes network sharing feature,” explains the developer.
