OWC expands Mercury Extreme processor upgrade line

Other World Computing (OWC) today expanded its Mercury Extreme product line with the introduction of new G4/1.4-1.467GHz and G4/1.25-1.26GHz processor upgrades, available immediately for US$619.99 and $499.99, respectively. The upgrade cards feature 256 Kilobytes of 1:1 L2 cache on-chip and 2 Megabytes of high-speed synchronous dynamic RAM (DDR L3) operating at up to 267 Megahertz (MHz).

SimCity 4 in duplication

The folks at Aspyr let us know that their Mac version of SimCity 4 is now in duplication and should be landing on store shelves soon. SimCity 4 features new simulation and graphics engines, an all new regional game play, and the ability to track the lives of individual Sims as they go about their daily routine. The title requires Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) or higher and is priced at US$49.95.

Original Mac icon designer interviewed

The Guardian has posted an interview with Susan Kare, designer of the original desktop icons for Apple and Microsoft. “Steve Jobs had an amazing ability to focus on and contribute to almost every aspect of the product,” she said. “It was explained to me that the computers were being designed for ‘mere mortals,’ not engineers. So the graphics should be able to be understood by a wide audience… The current icon guidelines focus so much on illustrative style.
