Roxio today announced Toast 6 Titanium, a new version of its popular CD and DVD burning software for Mac OS X. With Toast 6, users can now author Video CDs, Super VCDs and DVDs (DVD burner required), complete with menus, buttons and chapters that can be played on either a home DVD player or computer.

Apple ships single processor Power Mac G5s

Apple today announced that it has begun shipping the 1.6 GHz (US$1,999) and 1.8 GHz ($2,399) Power Mac G5 models. Apple said the dual 2.0 GHz Power Mac G5 will ship late this month, as planned. Apple also announced that it has received orders for over 100,000 G5s since its introduction on June 23. “The Power Mac G5 is a big hit with customers and developers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

Palm unveils new company name

Palm today revealed that “palmOne” will be the new name it will adopt following the proposed spin-off this fall of PalmSource, makers of the Palm OS platform software. “The name ‘palmOne’ will reflect the company’s handheld computer hardware and software solutions business and encompass the subbrands Zire and Tungsten, as well as Treo, upon the completion of the planned acquisition of Handspring, also expected this fall.” Products will begin to bear the new brand name in 2004.
