ZappTek has released iSpeak It 1.3, the latest version of its utility that can convert any document or Web page into an MP3 or AAC track in iTunes using your Mac’s built-in text-to-speech capabilities. This release adds the ability to download Web pages; automation of launch and iTunes transfer activities; control of artist, album and genre settings; a Services menu item; and provides a number of usability enhancements and bug fixes. iSpeak It costs US$9.95.

‘FireWire’ added to Oxford English Dictionary

Several MacMinute readers note that the term “FireWire” has been added to the Oxford English Dictionary. The definition of FireWire reads: “noun [mass noun] trademark a standard high-performance serial bus for connecting devices to a personal computer.” A full list of the new words added to the dictionary can be found here (PDF). Apple invented the high-speed FireWire interface in the mid-90s. It is also known as the cross-platform industry standard IEEE 1394.
