BANDWIDTH HOGS TARGET OF FREE NETMINDER ETHERNET UPDATE
New Plug-In Automatically Alerts Administrators

LAFAYETTE, CA — January 16, 2003 — Neon Software, Inc. announced today
the immediate availability of a free update for the 2002 Macworld Editors’
Choice award winning NetMinder Ethernet(R) 5.0 for Mac OS X. The update
easily identifies which network computers abuse network resources by
downloading audio and video files that can waste precious internet
connection bandwidth.

“One of the main reasons network administrators purchase packet analysis
software is to determine who is abusing computing resources,” stated Craig
Isaacs, Neon Software president. “While other tools display overall
bandwidth usage, only NetMinder Ethernet automatically flags audio/video
downloads to highlight potential bandwidth abuses.”

Bandwidth abuse joins the list of problems and threats automatically
identified by Neon Software’s Packet Inference engine. Bandwidth abuse
could indicate a network security breech, including unauthorized access or
use of the network.

Packet Inference

Packet Inference automatically discovers network problems and security
risks without requiring the user to have an advanced understanding of
protocols or to have to sift through large amounts of packet data. Once a
problem is discovered, users can be notified via email, pager or SNMP trap
of the problem or policy abuse.

Packet Inference can detect security risks such as port scans, denial of
service attempts, duplicate IP addresses, and worms and viruses, including
Code Red and Bugbear. This update to Packet Inference analyzes network data
to detect transfers of audio/video files to help administrators enforce
bandwidth policies.

Availability

The update is available today directly from Neon Software and requires
NetMinder Ethernet 5.0 and Mac OS X version 10.1 or higher. The update
includes two files: version 4.8 of Neon Software’s Packet Inference plug-in
and an editable text file that includes an extensive list of multimedia
file extensions that trigger the alert, including .MP3, MPEG, and .MOV.
Customers may learn more about the update and download it from

NetMinder Ethernet is available from resellers, selected distributors, and
directly from Neon Software for only US$795 SRP.
