Mercenary Studios has announced Rune: Halls of Valhalla for Mac OS 8/9, the multiplayer expansion pack for the third-person action/adventure game Rune, according to Accelerate Your Mac!. The game can be played as either a standalone multiplayer game or as an add-on to the original. Apple has released Apple Remote Desktop 1.0.1, an updated version of its administrative software for Mac OS 8/9 and Mac OS X for remotely managing Macs across a network or the Internet. The new version adds a number of improvements and bug fixes, including improved security for opening and copying applications, files, and folders on a remote client. Apple Remote Desktop sells for US$299 for ten users or $499 for an unlimited number of users.

Dantz updates Retrospect backup software

Dantz has released Retrospect Backup 5.0.203, a new version of its backup software for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. The new version fixes a problem under Mac OS X where memory would be continually allocated to Retrospect when any Carbon application was in use and fixes a problem under Mac OS 9 to assert failure when backing up an AppleShare IP Server or a client with file sharing turned on. Square Box Systems today announced CatDV Pro 3.0, a new version of its media cataloging and video logging utility for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. Utilizing a client-server architecture, CatDV Pro Server runs on either Mac OS X Server or Windows 2000. New features include a central shared database of clips and logging information, an enhanced search dialog, Live HTML Publisher, support for QuickTime text tracks, and ownership and permissions to control access to the clip library.
