Alsoft is touting a Mac OS X version of DiskWarrior, its award-winning disk utility, at Macworld Expo. Version 3.0 of the software is expected to ship in about six weeks; only HFS+ drives will be supported, UFS-formatted volumes will not be. Alsoft has yet to post information about the product on its site.

The new functionality featured in Apple’s revamped iPods, including iCal and iSync support, will be available to current iPod owners through version 1.2 of Apple’s iPod software, due to be released in about two weeks, MacMinute has learned.

Midbar, who develops solutions for the music industry to protect copyrighted material, today introduced CDS-200.4.0, which enables consumers protected playback on the Mac. The new version also includes a feature that allows recording labels the option to add extra multimedia content to the disc.

OpenLink Software has updated its collective ODBC ecosystem for Mac OS X, which includes ODBC Drivers for all major databases, an ODBC SDK for ODBC compliant applications and driver developers, and a Runtime Environment (ODBC Driver Manager). The new version utilizes a Cocoa based ODBC Administrator applet, which delivers a ODBC Driver installation and configuration interface similar to Windows and Linux.

Apple is offering QuickTime 6 users the ability to play MPEG-2 content through a US$19.99 component, available for purchase from the Apple Store. The component does not require QuickTime 6 Pro. MPEG-2 was approved in 1994 and is the basis for such products as Digital Television set top boxes and Digital Versatile Disks (DVD).
