Boris FX 6.1 was recently released, an update to the desktop editing software. New features include support for Mac OS X, improved workflow and performance, support for Avid OMF media files and Direct Show, and faster 3D rendering speed on a Power Mac G4. Boris FX 6.1 is priced at US$595 and is a free update for users of Boris FX 6.0, however, users updating from OS 9 to OS X must order a Boris FX 6.1 CD.

Despite flat-panel iMac sales losing momentum, Apple’s U.S. and worldwide market share in the second-quarter remained little changed from a year ago. U.S. market share remained unchanged at 4.1 percent, making Apple the fifth largest computer maker, up from sixth last year, according to preliminary results from research firm IDC. Apple increased its position as a result of HP and Compaq merging, although there was no increase in overall market share: Apple shipped 453,000 units in the quarter, compared to 459,000 units a year ago.

Exhibitors selling a wide range of products on the Macworld Expo show floor are noticing a change in the buying habits of consumers, who are looking for more laptop add-ons, FireWire products, and miscellaneous “toys.” (continued…)

Apple has released Bluetooth Preview 2.1 for Mac OS X, the newest version of its software that enables wireless data transfers to Bluetooth devices. Apple recently began taking orders again for the D-Link Bluetooth USB adapter.
