Mossberg: Windows iPods “work perfectly”

The Wall Street Journal’s Walter Mossberg discusses Apple’s new iPods in his latest column, noting that he he has been testing a near-final version of the iPod for Windows, which will be available to consumers in late August, and that synchronization “works perfectly.” Mossberg also points out that the new Windows iPods have a Windows-formated hard drive, so users who have a Mac-formated iPod will still have to use a third-party application, such as MediaFour’s XPlay, to connect their iPod to a PC.

OpenOffice for Mac OS X developer build released

A developer build of OpenOffice for Mac OS X was released today, as noted by The Register. Version 1.0 runs on DarwinPPC, and Mac OS X 10.1.2 and higher with help from other open source projects, and can save files and print to PostScript printers. “A mature, native OS X version of OpenOffice will be a boon for native Farsee, Arabic and Hebrew writers, as all these are or will be supported,” notes the article.
