MacHack 18 keynote speaker announced

MacHack: The Annual Conference for Leading Edge Developers announced the keynote speaker for the upcoming event. Ken Arnold, Chief Architect of EventMonitor, will kick off the 72-hour marathon conference, which takes place June 19-21, 2003 in Dearborn, Michigan. Arnold’s keynote will begin at 12:01 AM on June 19. Registration for the conference is priced at US$450 and includes access to all conference events, three meals and the conference banquet.

Summarize Web content with Abstracter

Mercury Software today released Abstracter 1.0, the company’s new OS X contextual menu summary service for Carbon applications such as Microsoft’s Internet Explorer or Qualcomm’s Eudora. In addition to summarizing content to the clipboard, the utility can also save summaries to MS Word, TextEdit and Radio text formats. Abstracter supports summarization in most European languages and Japanese, requires Mac OS X 10.2 or greater, and is priced at US$7 shareware.

Office v.X for $199 with Mac purchase

Apple and Microsoft’s Business Unit will announce on Tuesday that customers who purchase a Mac will be able to get a full-version copy of Office v.X for US$199, a savings of more than $200. According to c|net, the promotion is valid from October 1 through January 7, 2002. In order to take advantage of the offer, both the Mac and Office v.X must be purchased on the same day.
