Panic today released Transmit 2, a major update to the company’s popular FTP client. Version 2 was completely rewritten for Mac OS X, and boasts a host of new features, including SFTP support for secure transfers, an image and text preview drawer for both local and remote items, path shortcuts, a built-in text editor, a batch download window for large transfer jobs, automatic file queueing, improved synchronization, full AppleScript support, and much more. Transmit 2 is priced at US$24.95 ($16.95 upgrade).

Aladdin releases Stuffit 7.0.1

Aladdin today released StuffIt Deluxe 7.0.1 and StuffIt Standard Edition 7.0.1, the latest Mac versions of the the company’s access and compression utility. The free update fixes bugs and compatibility issues with Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and improves compression speed. Both utilities are available for Mac OS 8.6 or higher and Mac OS X. Please note that Aladdin’s site has not yet been updated with this latest release.

DropDMG 2.0 released

DropDMG 2.0 is the latest version of the utility that allows users to easily create .dmg and .img disk image files on Mac OS X. The utility can encrypt images and post-process them with GZip, BZip2, or MacBinary. It can create images with rich-text license agreements, and also supports segmented images and images that auto-open when you mount them. Version 2.0 includes several improvements, all of which are detailed here. DropDMG is US$10 shareware.

Hitachi introduces new 17″ flat-panel display with fast response times

Hitachi today introduced the CML 174, a new 17″ LCD monitor that has almost half the response time of any other flat-panel monitor on the market, making it “ideal for gaming, animation, digital signage, multi-media driven applications or for general users viewing video over the World Wide Web.” The display offers a 1280×1024 resolution, 400:1 contrast ratio, 160-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles, and sports a black or ivory appearance.
