Intuit today released TurboTax Deluxe for Mac for the 2001 tax year. New to the software this year is a Tax Law Advisor, which explains how the new tax laws will impact individuals; 401k Maximizer for analyzing the growth of your 401K plan; a Ten Year Forecaster that shows an individual’s current and future tax liability; and other features. TurboTax Deluxe for Mac carries a US$49.95 price tag.

The December 10 issue of Fortune includes a glowing review of Apple’s iPod. “iPod solves today’s music-listening problem: I’ll soon have all of my music on one very portable device to listen to whenever and wherever I want to. That’s just amazing.”

An Apple Hot News article features Dan Rucks, a video engineers whose credits include the video used during Madonna’s performance at the 2001 Grammys. Rucks, who only got in computers in 1998 with the iMac, now uses a Power Mac G4 with Final Cut Pro, After Effects, and DVD Studio Pro.

Apple announced in a press release today that more than 300,000 copies of QuickTime 5 are being downloaded from Apple’s site every day. At this rate, QuickTime 5 is on track for 100 million downloads in its first year of distribution.

Panic Software has announced the release of Transmit 1.7b2, the latest version of their Macintosh FTP client. This release focuses largely on the Mac OS X version of the software. It is significantly faster than 1.7b1, is more compatible, fixes a number of small bugs, and introduces a Mac OS 9 build.
