The Register has published reviews of two new Mac OS X books: Learning Cocoa, from O’Reilly Press (three-out-of-five rating) and Mac OS X: The Complete Reference, from Osborne/McGraw-Hill (two-out-of-five rating).

Maxtor today also announced that the company plans to ship an ATA hard drive in excess of 137GB by the end of the year. At present, the ATA interface tops out at 137GB, but the technology that Maxtor has partnered with Compaq, Microsoft, VIA, and others to create will pave the way for drives that “can access more than 100,000 times more data” than the current standard.

Maxtor today announced volume shipments of the Personal Storage 3000DV, a FireWire storage solution designed for video editing and graphics-intensive gaming. The 3000DV features a 7200 RPM 60GB hard drive as well as a new FireWire bridge that enables the drive to outperform its predecessor by up to 56 percent. The 3000DV carries a US$379.95 price tag.

The Register reports that Radiohead, the hugely popular UK band, revealed in a CultureLab interview that the group uses Apple PowerBooks for its music. “I’ve got like an Atari ST and we’ve all got PowerBooks which we run our favourite thing called Logic on because it never crashes unlike Cubase.”
