Maxtor today also announced that the company plans to ship an ATA hard drive in excess of 137GB by the end of the year. At present, the ATA interface tops out at 137GB, but the technology that Maxtor has partnered with Compaq, Microsoft, VIA, and others to create will pave the way for drives that “can access more than 100,000 times more data” than the current standard. Maxtor recently began shipping a 100GB ATA hard drive, the largest such drive on the market.
