US appeals court reverses Microsoft break-up

In a 7-0 ruling today, a federal appeals court reversed the breakup of Microsoft, citing “serious judicial misconduct” by US District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson, who originally handed the ruling. The appeals court said Jackson made inappropriate comments to the media that gave the impression he was biased against Microsoft. The appeals court did uphold the conclusion that Microsoft violated antitrust laws, but ordered that a new judge decide what the penalties should be.
