Activision has begun shipping Quake III Gold, a new game bundle that includes both id Software’s Quake III Arena and the expansion set Quake III: Team Arena. The $30 title contains two hybrid CDs that offer both Mac and PC installers; a welcomed change for Mac users that were forced to extract data from the PC version of Team Arena and download a separate Mac application. id Software’s Graeme Devine recently released a new Mac OS X installer for the 1.30 version of Quake III Arena; users report experiencing a 20 to 50 percent increase in framerates when playing the latest version on Mac OS X 10.1.
