METROWERKS INTRODUCES CODEWARRIOR LATITUDE

New Development Tools Move Mac OS Applications to Rhapsody and UNIX

SAN JOSE, California-May 12, 1997-At the Apple WorldWide Developers
Conference, Metrowerks Inc. (NASDAQ: MTWKF, TSE/ME:MWK), one of the world’s
leading providers of software development tools, today announced the
availability of CodeWarrior Latitude, a porting tool that allows software
developers to port Mac OS applications to Apple’s Next Generation operating
system, “Rhapsody”, in addition to UNIX-hosted operating systems. Designed
to shorten time-to-market for Rhapsody-native applications, this new
addition to the CodeWarrior line of development tools enables Mac OS
developers to begin the transition to the new OS without rewriting all of
their source code.

Metrowerks will be showing CodeWarrior Latitude DR/1 at the Apple WorldWide
Developer Conference in San Jose, CA from May 13-16 in the “CodeWarrior
Lounge”, Room J3 of the San Jose Convention Center.

CodeWarrior Latitude DR/1 (“Developer Release” 1) includes a set of shared
libraries that perform the functions of the Macintosh API. Programmers
simply recompile their Mac OS source code and link it with the CodeWarrior
Latitude libraries to produce a new native application. CodeWarrior
Latitude DR/1 currently allows users to build native applications for the
Sun Microsystems Solaris 2.3+, Silicon Graphics IRIX 5.2+ and Hewlett
Packard HP-UX 9.x+ UNIX-hosted operating systems. Metrowerks will include
support for building native Rhapsody applications shortly after Apple
releases its new OS later this year. Mac OS developers, however, can begin
using CodeWarrior Latitude DR/1 now to prepare their applications to run
native under Rhapsody when it becomes available. By compiling and linking
their projects with the CodeWarrior Latitude libraries, they can easily
identify which portions of their code will port smoothly and which will
need to be rewritten.

“We are pleased to introduce CodeWarrior Latitude now,” said Jean Belanger,
chairman and chief executive officer of Metrowerks. “Providing the Mac OS
developer community with the Latitude porting technology at this early
stage underscores our commitment to making the transition to Rhapsody as
smooth and rapid as possible.”

Pricing and Availability
CodeWarrior Latitude DR/1 is available now for a suggested retail price of
US$399 from Metrowerks and Metrowerks’ authorized distributors. Purchase
includes one free product update and technical support from Metrowerks.
Customers purchasing Developer Release 1 will receive an extended set of
updates.
